In 1984, Bill Borgiel left college to take over a family commercial roofing business which had been sold and was on the verge of bankruptcy.  At the age of 20, Bill Borgiel began with four field employees and a secretary, to begin the transformation of a small roofing company with $300,000.00 in debt, into one of the most prominent roofing companies in the country.

The early 1990’s represented a pivotal time for Lutz Roofing. The economy was soft and many of the larger roofing companies in Michigan were struggling with a challenging economy, and a roofing industry which was changing rapidly.  Single-ply roof membranes were gaining significant market share over the traditional tar and gravel roofs, and the older roofing contractors were failing to make the necessary changes to stay relevant. When these roofing contractors began to downsize or close, Lutz Roofing was poised to find some of the best people in the commercial roofing industry. To this day, Lutz has tremendous employees who care very much about the outcome of each job.

Lutz’s growth throughout the 1990’s was steady and their business reputation began to flourish.  Lutz Roofing would be entrusted with some of the most challenging commercial roofing projects in their region, and they would establish themselves as one of the leading roofing contractors in the country.

Today, Lutz has approximately 150 employees and is regarded by many to be a true industry leader in commercial roofing.  Lutz Roofing has a significant diversity of experience, and has expertise with all of the various roofing systems, including EPDM, TPO, Modified, Built-Up and Metal. While Lutz Roofing is headquartered in Michigan, the company performs a significant portion of their work throughout the Mid-western United States, and Florida.
